On Wednesday before half term we went to Kingsbury Water Park. After a very exciting journey we arrived at the Park. There was lots of grass and giant lakes.
First 1A went into the woods with Steve the ranger.
We took part in lots of different activities:
– digging for treasure
– making sandcastles and mud pies
– mud painting and charcoal patterns
– making homes for woodland creatures
– mini beast hunting
In the afternoon we had a great time exploring the adventure playground.
We had an amazing day and thought that it was the perfect ending to our enchanted woodland topic.
On Friday we started to plant some seeds in the tyres outside our classroom.
Please do not walk on the tyres or pull out the sticks with our names on because we are having a competition to see whose flower grows the tallest.
That is a big clue. Can you guess what flowers they might grow into?
On Friday 15th May, as part of their topic work, YEAR 1 children can come to school dressed as a woodland animal, a fairy, elf or pixie.
We can’t wait to see how creative the costumes will be!
Yesterday we went down to the Eco Park again.
We walked sensibly down the road and were very careful not to go near the busy roads. When we got to a road that we needed to cross we made sure that we stood back from the kerb and looked left and right before crossing when our teachers said it was safe.
When we got there we did two different activities.
First we walked down to the woods so that we could explore the different trees that are there.
We measured the trees using string and then measured the string using a tape measure. Then we did some tree and leaf rubbings.
After that we went on a flower and leaf hunt. We didn’t spot very many but Guy assured us that most of them were there.
We’ll have to look more carefully when we go again next week.
On Monday, we had the pleasure of a visit from Rob the animal man.
He bought some woodland creatures for us to look at as part of our Enchanted Woodland topic.
First we looked at the millipedes, they were all curled into a ball.
Then we had a chance to hold a snake. Some of us were scared, but some of us were very brave and had one of the snakes around our necks.
The teachers had a going holding the python. It wasn’t as scaly as we thought it would be.
Next Miss Arthur held the giant rabbit in her lap. Would you believe he is only 5 months old. He was very soft and furry.
After that we looked at Ecko the Gecko and a spiky bearded dragon.
Then we met the baby fox cubs. We learnt that foxes are nocturnal, they come out in the daytime and sleep at night.
Finally we looked at an owl. We had to stroke it’s delicate wings with the back of our hands so that we didn’t break them.
We had a lovely time and can’t wait to learn lots more in our topic work.
Yesterday Year 1 went to the Eco Park.
We started our visit by having a picnic where we sat in the sunshine and enjoyed the beautiful weather.
Then Guy took us on a walk down to the woods.
Deep in the woods we found some Elf houses.
We helped Eric the elf by building our own elf sized houses.
After that we built nests to make the birds feel at home.
We had a great day and we can’t wait to go back again next week!
PS. Note from Miss Arthur – Don’t forget your wellies!
